Since opening in 2005, Pacifica Recovery Services has provided a warm, caring and supportive setting for recovery from substance abuse. Our mission from the beginning is providing programs for adults and adolescents in an outpatient setting. For adults, Pacifica provided two programs, a PHP or partial hospitalization program and IOP or intensive outpatient program. For adolescent, an after school IOP or intensive outpatient program. With 45 years of experience, the programs are rich with information and tools for recovery. The programs are flexible and individualized to meet the needs of each client. The programs are small in size so each client gets personal care.
The founder and director, Jim Rhoads, has a long and distinguished career of 45 years in the treatment of substance abuse. He graduated from seminary in 1970 and began his career that same year by opening a directing a residential program for adolescent girls. After 3 years, he became the clinical chaplain and supervisor of clinical pastoral education in the alcoholism services at Long Beach General Hospital. He was the pastoral member of the interdisciplinary treatment team directed by a pioneer in the treatment field, Vernelle “Vicki” Fox, MD. In 1982, Vicki Fox retired and Jim moved into program management and through the years developed several nationally recognized hospital based programs. He has lectured at many universities and medical schools and has developed knowledge and experience few have in the field today. He continues to lecture daily and provides in-depth information few other programs can offer.
